Ben Ledi

With the ice melting we opted for a walk up Ben Ledi on Saturday. Ten of us turned up, and it was really good to see Karin out after recent awful events for her.
The day was pretty straightforward until a group of decided on the direct approach, up an open looking gully which runs up from not far above the point where the path comes out of the trees.
We ended up all soloing a not-bad-but-soft ice pitch to climb out of the top of the gully, with one or two hairy moments. Simmo had a bit of a slide and opted for a more sensible finish, but it had excellent scenery and enough excitement to satfisfy single-axe climbers.
We met the others on the ridge and all trotted back to the car park. Good to have an adventure so close to home on a pretty iffy day; although the light on the summit ridge was wonderful.

A good day...
It was really nice being out with the Lomond Club again. A day in the mountains is always right and it was good to feel the support from people who have known Russ. The Lomond Club has certainly played an important role in Russell’s life. I am sure he would have loved to be there too. Thank you all for a good day.

Climbed that gully with Anne back in March 1979 just after I'd moved to Scotland. Remember it being fun but also Anne's last venture into snow and ice climbing.
Might have had something to do with the bumslide that went horribly wrong on the way down to Stank Glen. Resulted in an iceaxe hole in Anne's leg and a visit to Stirling Infirmary.
