Ski tour from the Cairnwell.

Kevin has been hogging the trip reports of late so I will write one; ski touring with Karen and .... KEVIN! When you get to Kevin's age you know a good thing when you see it and the snow conditions this year have been driving him on to obsessively ski every weekend, knowing that it could easily be raining and mild for the next few months. This weekend past was no exception so K,K & A skied from Glen Shee ski area out to Beinn Lutharn Mhor and back via An Socach. The descent from Beinn Lutharn Mhor led into a snow-up river bed which we followed for miles – one of the best downhill runs I have experienced, anywhere, ever. The next plod up An Socach was less fun but opened up another fantastic run back towards the ski area. If anyone out there is in any doubt let me stress that these are the best ski-touring conditions for a very long time. A deep, firm base with 3 or 4 inches of powder on top, blue sky, no wind.

To make matters even more gleeful my wonky knee has been well and truly fixed. The man with the scalpel did a fantastic job and I can now ski to the left as well as the right. This is pretty useful unless one plans to tackle conical hills in a clockwise descent for the rest of one’s life. It is like having a new body part (we can re-build him) and I heartily recommend the experience.
