Some of the Lomond Mountaineering Club meets are known for their incredible mountaineering achievements, but this was not one of those meets. With a forecast of persistent rain throughout the weekend, the plan was to have short outings during the day and enjoy board games and drinks in the evenings. The Inbhirfhaolain hut at the heart of Glen Etive is a great little place to stay, especially when surrounded by the autumnal colours of the hills and trees.
On Saturday, the main outing included eight women and Steve heading up Beinn Maol Chaluim, a Corbett accessible directly from the hut. The group made their way up Gleann Fhaolain, catching occasional glimpses of sunshine through the clouds. From the summit, they traversed the long ridge where the wind picked up, forcing them to take shelter and wait for the gusts to subside. Despite the wet conditions, everyone was relieved to return to the hut and dry off before the worst of the weather hit. Another small group ventured to Beinn a’ Chrulaiste for some scrambles accessible from Glen Coe.
Saturday afternoon was spent drinking copious amounts of tea and drying out coats by the wood-burning fire. The evening was filled with various card games, board games, and even magnetic games, with some folks coming up from Glasgow just to join the fun. The highlight of the evening was Ruth’s excellent Chocolate Pear pudding.
Sunday was a more relaxed day, with most people sleeping in and a few heading out for smaller adventures in Glen Etive. Thanks to everyone who attended and made the meet such an enjoyable experience for all involved. Despite the weather it was a fantastic meet and showed the true spirit of the Lomond club.
