Walking or hiking is the other cornerstone of the club alongside climbing, probably because there is so much fantastic walking country to be explored in Scotland. Members do all sorts of hiking at all levels – from corbetts and munros, to full-on scrambling in the mountains, to bothy, camping and hut weekends.
Every club trip will no doubt have a group of walkers ready to go into the hills to get blown about and and drenched! Whilst there are some incredibly fit members among us, it’s not about racing to the top and the group will adopt a moderate pace to suit everyone. For arranged meets the walk on the Saturday is usually quite long and is generally planned on the morning or night before with the help of a few liquid refreshments!
On the Sunday, given we have to get home (and have likely got wet on Saturday) we normally do shorter walks and start to head home when agreed. A reasonable level of fitness will help you enjoy the weekend and we encourage you to take an interest in the map reading to develop navigation skills. The hikes we do aren't extreme, but they're not a stroll either.
